US Trade and Development Agency may be involved in development of Middle Corridor

Deputy Ministers of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, Genadi Arveladze and Inga Phkhaladze, held a meeting with Carl Kress, Regional Director of the U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA), APA’s local bureau reports.

During the meeting, prospects for future cooperation and the Georgian government’s current and planned projects for the development of the Middle Corridor were discussed, as well as the possibilities of receiving technical support from USTDA in this process.

It was noted that the development of the Middle Corridor and the integration of Georgia’s transport infrastructure into international transit networks are priorities for the government.

The meeting also addressed issues related to the Anaklia deep-sea port, projects for the modernization of Georgian Railways and the completion of construction of the Baku–Tbilisi–Kars railway, the full implementation of the East–West highway, and the construction of the new Tbilisi International Airport.

The parties also reviewed projects that enhance Georgia’s role as a transit hub in various sectors, including the Black Sea submarine cable project that will connect Georgia to the European Union’s energy market.

USTDA has expressed interest in projects aimed at further developing the Middle Corridor. The need to identify and support requirements that will enhance the competitiveness of this transport corridor, as well as the potential for attracting U.S. investments into this process, was emphasized.

It was noted that within the framework of the agency representatives’ working visit, opportunities for the development of transport corridors in Georgia, as well as in Armenia and Azerbaijan, and also in Bosnia and Herzegovina, are planned to be explored.
