"Azerbaijan Railways has completed design work for the reconstruction and modernization of the railway infrastructure in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic," said Arif Aghayev, Deputy Chairman of Azerbaijan Railways CJSC, APA reports.
He stated that construction work has already begun at the location where they are currently present — in the area of the Salammalik station of Ordubad district, on the border with Armenia: “The construction work covers a 188 km-long railway line. The goal is to build a new railway network that meets modern standards. After the completion of major renovation works, the railway’s annual freight capacity will reach 15 million tons. As you know, on August 8, 2025, in Washington, Mr. President achieved another historic success by securing the signing of the agreement on the inauguration of the ‘Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity’ (TRIPP). Within the framework of this agreement, railway connectivity along the corridor will be restored. The Zangezur Corridor, as an important component of the Middle Corridor, is considered a key route for cargo transportation between Europe and Asia. This corridor will also form one of the main links of the North–South Corridor.”
