The project to expand the 130 km Ganja–Gazakh–Georgia border section of the Baku–Alat–Gazakh–state border with the Republic of Georgia highway — a component of the Great Silk Road — to four traffic lanes is already in its final stage, APA-Economics reports.

According to the project, the total width of the roadbed is 27.5 meters. The highway consists of four traffic lanes, each 3.75 meters wide.

Construction work on the Ganja–Gazakh–Georgia border section of the highway is being carried out in 3 lots. Work on Lots 1 and 2, as well as part of Lot 3, has been fully completed, and on August 7, 2023, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, attended the opening of the 102-kilometer Ganja–Gazakhbeyli section.

Within the framework of the “State Program on the Socio-Economic Development of the Regions of the Republic of Azerbaijan for 2019–2023,” 67 underpasses, 19 junctions, and 17 bridges (36 in total) have been constructed and put into operation on this section of the rebuilt 1b technical category road.

Currently, construction work on the final 28-kilometer Gazakhbeyli–Georgia border section of the highway — from kilometer 102.2 to kilometer 130.150 of the project — is ongoing and is at its final stage.
