Director General: Azerbaijan in talks to invest in Iran’s southern ports

Azerbaijan is holding talks on investing in Iran’s southern ports, Said Rasouli, Director General of the Ports and Maritime Organisation of Iran, told APA.

According to him, preliminary discussions have begun between the two countries on the participation and investment of the Azerbaijani side in the Shahid Rajai port.

"Recently, a high-level delegation led by Mr Shahin Mustafayev visited the Shahid Rajai port. During the visit, the issue of Azerbaijan's participation and investment in this port was discussed. Considering the role of both countries in the North-South transport corridor, there are conditions for expanding cooperation," Rasouli noted.

The Director General said that the Azerbaijani side has expressed interest in investing in Iran's southern ports.

According to him, Azerbaijan's current investment in the Astara railway terminal in Iran creates a basis for expanding this route to southern ports.

"In the field of logistics and transport, Azerbaijan is participating in the Astara railway terminal and is working on the completion of the project. We are also interested in expanding bilateral cooperation in the fields of ports, maritime tourism and cargo transportation," Said Rasuli added.
