A number of projects are being implemented in Azerbaijan for the development of international corridors, the Minister of Digital Development and Transport of Azerbaijan, Rashad Nabiyev, said at the 83rd meeting of the Railway Transport Council of the CIS member states, APA-Economics reports.
He noted that last year, Azerbaijan and Russia signed an agreement on cooperation in the development of transit transportation within the framework of the “North–South” international transport corridor:
“The document envisages the modernization of railway infrastructure and the gradual increase of freight traffic. For example, from January 1, 2028, we plan to bring the freight turnover along this route to 5 million tons, and at a later stage, we intend to increase it to 15 million tons annually.
Work on the renewal of infrastructure on the Azerbaijani section of the corridor is actively continuing. By the end of this year, the reconstruction of the Sumgayit–Yalama line will be completed, and, in parallel, construction and restoration work is being carried out on the Alat–Osmanli–Astara line.”
