Azerbaijan has set ambitious national targets to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 35% by 2030 and by 40% by 2050, said Rovshan Rustamov, Chairman of “Azerbaijan Railways” CJSC, at the presentation of the decarbonization project implemented within the framework of ADY’s partnership with the Asian Development Bank (AIB), APA-Economics reports.

“As one of the country’s main transport institutions, ADY not only supports these goals – we take on the responsibility of actively contributing to their implementation,” Rovshan Rustamov noted.

According to him, railway transport is already the most environmentally friendly form of mass transportation, and although ADY’s share in the country’s total emissions is less than 0.5%, the steps we are taking are of great importance for the future. In many ways, the future comes on the tracks laid today. The mentioned project is one of those tracks.

“This is also one of the key tools that transforms our ‘2030 Strategic Directions’—which place priorities such as Decarbonization, Digitalization, Corridor Competitiveness, and Safety at the center of our planning and investment decisions—into practical actions,” Rovshan Rustamov said.
