In recent years, large-scale work has been carried out in Azerbaijan for the development of international transport corridors, said Rovshan Rustamov, Chairman of Azerbaijan Railways JSC (ADY), during the plenary session of the Railway Transport Council of the CIS countries held in Baku, APA-Economics reports.
“The achieved results are primarily based on the successful transport policy implemented by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev. Strategic projects implemented on the initiative of the Head of State, such as the Baku–Tbilisi–Kars railway, the Middle Corridor, and the North–South transport corridor, have ensured Azerbaijan’s leading positions on the global transport map,” Rovshan Rustamov noted.
According to him, the Baku–Tbilisi–Kars railway now serves as a reliable bridge between Europe and Asia. After modernization works, the throughput capacity of the Baku–Tbilisi–Kars line has been increased from 1 million tons to 5 million tons per year. Overall, Azerbaijan Railways continues to work on the development of infrastructure to improve the efficiency of operations along the Middle Corridor. In particular, work on transitioning to alternating current on the Baku–Böyük Kesik line, the main railway in the East–West direction, is being successfully carried out.
