Azerbaijan to build a new seaport on the Black Sea

Baku. Rashad Suleymanov – APA-Economics. The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) plans to construct a new seaport on the Black Sea through proceeds from its Black Sea Port of Kulevi in Georgia.
The company said the seaport project is being designed at present.
At present the Kulevi terminal employs about 700 people, of which 80% are Georgian nationals.
The budget of Khobi District in Georgia is 80% filled by tax from the terminal.
Kulevi received ISO:9001 (Quality Management), ISO:14001 (Effective Environmental Management System) and OHSAS:18001 (Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems) certification from Moody International.
SOCAR acquired Kulevi in late 2006. With $300 million in investment, the terminal was inaugurated in May, 2008.
The terminal’s annual capacity is 4 million tons.
