Baku. Nijat Mustafayev – APA-Economics. Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Transport removed about 1 000 minibuses out of public transportation in Baku, replacing them with full-size buses.
The ministry said in a statement that the measure was taken to do away with «traffic congestion» on the road, to make the transport system more rational amid the construction of modern roads, bridges, overpasses, improvement of the regulatory framework regulating the public transport etc.
Under these comprehensive measures the entry of minibuses to the central streets of Baku was restricted.
”Despite repeated notices to bus entrepreneurs to replace minibuses with buses, the problem has remained unresolved for many months. The measures aim to ensure high-quality services provided to passengers,” said the ministry.
The Ministry added that the transport system in Baku will be overhauled and Intelligent Traffic Management System will be launched.
Azerbaijan is importing new full-size buses from Germany, Korea, Belarus and China.
