Baku. Rashad Suleymanov – APA-Economics. The workgroup on the proposed Baku Intelligent Traffic Management System will meet in Baku on September 26.
Sadraddin Mammadov, Officer of the Ministry of Transport, told APA-Economics that preparation for the startup of the works and documentation will be discussed at the meeting that will bring together the Ministry of Transport, Traffic Police and the project contractor South Korea’s SK C&C Co. Ltd.
According to him, the works are scheuled to start on October 8 when the President of SK C & C Co. Ltd. will visit Baku.
In April, South Korea’s SK C & C Co. Ltd. and Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Transport signed an agreement on the establishment of the Baku Intelligent Traffic Management System.
An Intelligent Traffic System involves a much closer interaction between all of its components: drivers, pedestrians, public transportation and traffic management systems. Adaptive signal systems, driver advisory and route planning and automated vehicles are some of the goals set up to increase the efficiency of actual systems.
A self-adaptive system would be able to respond quickly to the changes in the road conditions, modifying signal policies and rerouting drivers to prevent congestions.
The initial cost of the project is between $50 million and $55 million.
