The leader of Russia Research Movement’s Kuban unit Alexander Shepelyov said no documents were found beside the remains, APA reports citing Komsomolskaya Pravda newspaper.

Only the surname of Mahmudov carved on the cover of his metal container has paved the way for examination of the skeleton.

Through the research systems of Kuban Battlefield and archive materials, it was found out that the killed soldier is Mahmoud Hajiverdi Janahmed from Azerbaijan, born in 1912. He was reportedly drafted from Siyezen district in 1941.

Mahmudov began to fight in Kuban in the summer of 1943. He was awarded the order of Red Star for his bravery in the battles in 1943. On the day he was rewarded, Mahmudov went missing in the fights and his family was sent a notification about it.

71 years after the incident, Mahmudov’s son was informed that his father’s remains were discovered. Leader of Russia Research Movement’s Kuban unit Shepelyov informed that they are planning to send the corpse to his motherland to be buried, and the award will be handed over to his heirs.
