Baku. Shahriyar alizadeh – APA. Baku Court of Grave Crimes has today started the hearing on the case of Parviz Hashimli, the correspondent of the Bizim yol newspaper and Tavakkul Gurbanov, who was arrested together with him.
Parviz Hashimli said at the hearing presided by judge Novruz Karimov that he wants to get familiarized with the protocols of the previous hearings. The judge said it would be possible after the final hearing.
His lawyer Behruz Bayramov said that employees of the Ministry of National Security searched Hashimli’s house and seized security cameras and their memory cards.
Judge of Baku Court of Grave Crimes Novruz Karimov will preside over the hearing. The lawyer filed a petition to return the memory cards and watch them.
The judge said that this issue wouldn’t be put up for discussion.
Then, it was decided to launch the investigation process.
The public prosecutor announced the indictment.
Hashimli pleaded not guilty, but Gurbanov pleaded guilty.
Hashimli said he didn’t commit any crime and he is innocent: “This arrest was expected. I was being persecuted before the arrest. I wrote a letter to the U.S. Embassy prior to arrest that they want to arrest me, but I don’t know under which charges.”
He said that Tavakkul Gurbanov called me several time on the day of his arrest: “He said his son studying at Azerbaijan State Economic University had problems and he wanted to meet with me. I rejected several times. At last I met with him and was arrested.”
Hashimli said his rights were violated in jail and he suffered from several diseases.
Following this, Hashimli answered the public prosecutor’s questions.

Parviz Hashimli was arrested by employees of the Ministry of National Security on September 17. He faces charges over Criminal Code articles 206.3.2 (smuggling) and 228.2.1 (illegal acquisition and storage of firearms).
Sabayil District Court sentenced Hashimli to pre-trial detention.
