Azerbaijani IS member detained in attempt to illegally cross border with Georgia

According to the information, Beylegan district resident Shirinov Babek (1990), who previously fought within IS terrorist organization in Syria, was detained in the Uzungazmalar frontier post in Azerbaijan’s Zagatala district while attempting to illegally cross the country’s border with Georgia and flee to Syria through Turkey.

As a result of operational actions, Zagatala resident Shamkhalov Afghan was detained for assisting the IS member.

In addition, according to the SBS, on Oct.18, an attempt to smuggle goods from Georgia to Azerbaijan was prevented in the frontier post in Sadikhli village of Agstafa district. The trespasser pursued by the border guard managed to escape leaving 254 Chinese-made mobile phones in two packages in the scene.

On Oct.20, Gazakh resident Mammadov Elsever was detained in the Demirtepe frontier post in Agstafa district while he was smuggling 30 head of cattle from Georgia to Azerbaijan.

Investigations are underway on the three facts.
