Azerbaijani Interior Ministry issues official statement on killing of Edik Rustamov, member of armed group that attacked police

The Ministry’s press service told APA that police major Galib Guliyev was killed and other 3 police officers were injured as a result of the fire opened by two unknown persons during the search operation conducted in connection with the robbery against a person, who was dealing with foreign exchange in Gusar, on October 16.

During the search operations conducted to render harmless armed criminals, the whereabouts of Gusar resident Edik Rustamov, one more member of the criminal group that is accused of robbery and attacked the law-enforcement forces on October 19, was determined.

A special operation was conducted on October 23 to render harmless that person. Consequently, Edik Rustamov was killed by special-purpose forces of the Interior Ministry.

Investigation is underway, search operations are being continued.

As a result of the operation conducted on October 9, other members of the armed group Faig Shahmuradov and Ramiz Rahimkhanov were also killed.
