Muradverdiyev’s lawyer Rashad Mirmehdizadeh told APA that the questionnaire details were specified. The petitions on dropping the criminal case and commuting his imprisonment were refused. Another hearing will be held next week.
On June 20, 2013 at 09:25, Muradverdiyev Akif Shamsaddin smuggled ancient gold coins dating back to the period of Tsarist Russia aiming to take them from the Republic of Azerbaijan to Russia. On the same day, Akif Muradverdiyev was detained by employees of the Ministry of National Security after he crossed the customs check-point for Baku-Moscow flight at Heydar Aliyev International Airport. He was inspected in the presence of witnesses, 40 ancient gold coins dating back to the period of Tsarist Russia were found in his handbag.
Main Investigation Department of the Ministry of National Security has launched criminal case on the fact on article 206.1 (smuggling) of the Criminal Code. Court has sentenced Akif Muradverdiyev to pre-trial detention.
