Khachmaz. Vali Turan – APA. Khachmaz Regional Court has today held the next hearing on the criminal cases of the journalists and the other four persons charged over Guba incidents. APA reports that the lawyers made speeches with petitions at the process. They protested public prosecutor Ahad Ibrahimov. The judge didn’t sustain the petition.
Following this, one of the persons charged over the incidents, former chairman of Guba city Municipality Elkhan Aliyev gave testimony. Aliyev did not admit his guilt.
The next hearing was scheduled for January 8, 2013.
Chairman of Guba city Municipality Elkhan Aliyev, executive director of “Khayal” television Vugar Gonagov, editor-in-chief of the television Zaur Guliyev, Zakir Mammadov and Gulagha Aliyev faced charges under articles 233 (Organization of actions promoting infringement of a social order or active participation in such actions) and 309.2 (abuse of power) and Mukhtar Alakbarov with 186.2.2 (deliberate destruction or damage of property by an arson, explosion or other publicly dangers way or entailed heavy consequences) , 233 (Organization of actions promoting infringement of a social order or active participation in such actions) and 315.2 (resistance to or use of force against government representative) of the Criminal Code.
A protest action was held in Guba on March 1 demanding the resignation of head of the executive office Rauf Habibov. The action resulted in clashes and violence. Rauf Habibov’s house and auxiliary buildings of the executive office were burnt.
