Baku. Shahriyar Alizadeh – APA. The Chief of Azerbaijani Anti-Torture Committee Elchin Behbudov held a meeting on the outcomes of the year. According to Behbudov, the committee received 141 applications in 2012, APA reports. He said some government agencies are intolerant to criticism and evade from cooperating with the committee: “We are closely cooperating with the Ministry of National Security, Ministry of Internal Affairs, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Defense and Ministry of Education. However, the Ministry of Justice limited conduction of monitoring in the prisons in 2010. I consider it wrong.”
Behbudov said most of the applications are filed from correctional facilities of the Justice Ministry’s Penitentiary Service, police officers, Oil Company, employees of the Transportation Department.
Behbudov spoke about the issues of torture against detainees. He said that striking on the bottom of foot with rubber truncheon is widely spread.
The head of the committee said compared to previous years, this year, the number of applications increased. The annual report on the outcomes of the year will be sent to all international organisations.
