The parliament told APA that the prisoners’ appeal will be considered at the committee for legal policy and state-building this month.

According to the commitment undertaken by Azerbaijan upon accession to the Council of Europe, the parliament repealed the death sentence in February, 1998.

At that time those convicted under this article were automatically sentenced to life imprisonment.

The number of such prisoners is 80. Considering this decision nonobjective, they often go on hunger strike.

Saying that there was no life imprisonment when they were convicted, they demand commutation of their sentence to 15-20 years imprisonment.

Prisoners have also appealed to the Council of Europe.
