On August 6, the Baku Court of Appeal continued the open court hearing on the appeals filed by Arayik Harutyunyan, Arkadi Ghukasyan, Bako Sahakyan, Davit Ishkhanyan, David Babayan, Levon Mnatsakanyan and other citizens of the Republic of Armenia who were convicted by the Baku Military Court for crimes against peace and humanity, war crimes resulting from Armenia's military aggression against Azerbaijan, including the planning and waging of an aggressive war, genocide, violations of the laws and customs of war, terrorism, financing of terrorism, the forcible seizure of power, and numerous other crimes, APA reports.
At the hearing, chaired by Judge Elmar Rahimov of the Baku Court of Appeal, with Judges Emin Mehdiyev and Mehriban Garayeva participating (reserve judge Ali Mammadov), each of the individuals whose criminal cases were under appellate review was provided with an interpreter in the languages they understood — Armenian and Russian — as well as defense lawyers to ensure their right to a defense.
Representatives of the victims, as well as prosecutors representing the state prosecution — Abbas Abbasli, Head of the Department of Public Prosecution of the Prosecutor General's Office, and prosecutors of the same department Anar Alakbarov and Sevinj Gasimova — took part in the court hearing.
Representatives of the Office of the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of the Republic of Azerbaijan attended the hearing as observers.
At the hearing, the court's decision on the appeals filed by the defendants was announced.
The court ruling stated that the verdict of the Baku Military Court dated February 5, 2026, in the criminal case against Arayik Vladimiri Harutyunyan, Bako Sahaki Sahakyan, Davit Klimi Babayan, Levon Henrixi Mnatsakanyan, Arkadi Arshaviri Ghukasyan (Ghukasyan), David Azati Manukyan, Davit Rubeni Ishkhanyan, Madat Arakeli Babayan, Melikset Vladimiri Pashayan, Garik Grigori Martirosyan, Erik Roberti Ghazaryan, Vasili Ivani Beglaryan, Levon Romiki Balayan, Davit Nelsoni Allahverdyan, and Gurgen Homerosi Stepanyan shall remain unchanged in relation to the appeals filed.
Recall that, under the verdict of the Baku Military Court dated February 5, 2026, Arayik Harutyunyan, Levon Mnatsakanyan, David Manukyan, Davit Ishkhanyan, and David Babayan were sentenced to life imprisonment. Arkadi Ghukasyan and Bako Sahakyan were sentenced to 20 years in prison, Madat Babayan and Melikset Pashayan to 19 years, Garik Martirosyan to 18 years, Davit Allahverdyan and Levon Balayan to 16 years, while Vasili Beglaryan, Gurgen Stepanyan, and Erik Ghazaryan were each sentenced to 15 years' imprisonment.
