Iran and Oman’s joint statement on ensuring safe commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz is in the final stage of preparation, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said, APA reports.
According to him, Iran and Oman, as the two countries with coastlines along the Strait of Hormuz, have been holding talks over the past two months on determining a safe route for commercial vessels in the strait.
Baghaei noted that during this period, the relevant Iranian authorities had reviewed the technical, legal, security and environmental aspects of the issue.
Describing the talks as “professional” and “promising,” the Foreign Ministry spokesperson said the geographical coordinates of the route agreed upon by the parties had been determined.
“If third parties do not interfere in this process, the joint statement of Iran and Oman reflecting the main principles and provisions of the agreement will be finalized in the near future,” Baghaei stressed.
