Baku-APA. A man was shot and seriously injured Thursday in a shooting at an anti-Wall Street protest in the U.S. state of Vermont, APA reports.

The incident occurred in the City Hall Park in Burlinton, Vermont, where a 35-year-old man was found with a gunshot wound, local news outlet WCAX reported. The man was taken to a hospital and is in grave condition.

Police received an emergency call shortly after 2 p.m. local time and responded to the scene, Burlington Deputy Police Chief Andi Higbee said at a briefing at the park. While the circumstances of the shooting are still under investigation, the public is not at risk, he said.

The report said the shooting was believed to be self-inflicted, but it’s unclear whether it was accidental or an attempted suicide.

The Occupy Burlington, an offshoot of the widespread Occupy Wall Street movement which protests against a wide range of issues including corporate influence on politics and the unequal distribution of wealth, began establishing tents at the park since Oct. 28, with almost two dozen tents remaining there.
