Baku-APA. Tropical Storm Irene is threatening Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands. Heavy rains and winds have caused airports to close, and flooded lowland areas in the Leeward Islands, APA reports quoting Xinhua.
There have also been widespread power cuts but no immediate reports of serious damage or injuries. The storm is expected to drop up as much as 7 inches of rain on the islands. Meanwhile, tropical storm Harvey is bringing heavy rains to parts of Guatemala and eastern Mexico. Forecasters say flash floods and mudslides are possible.
