One more person beating the American journalist and British human rights defender arrested in Azerbaijan

According to information, as a result of joins operations of investigation group consisting of employees of MIA, Baku city Main Police Department and Yasamal District Police Department, Khirdalan city resident, Vusal Gurbanov born in 1986 was detained on June 26. The police continue investigations for arresting of other person.

According to MIA press service, Yasamal District Police Office has received information on beating of British citizen Silvia Davies and US citizen Amanda Erickson by using physical force at about 00:20, on June 16, 2011.

A criminal case was launched under article 221.2.1 (hooliganism) of the Criminal Code in Investigation Department. The damaged persons were questioned, identikits of criminals were made and a forensic medical examination was defined.

An investigation group was established consisting of employees of MIA and Baku city Main Police Department for arresting of executors and intensive measures are being taken.

Note that, foreignersâ€™ mission in Azerbaijan was to hold trainings for civil society activists and journalists, cooperate with NGOs.
