Assailants who beat American journalist and British Human rights defender detained

Baku – APA. Two assailants, who beat American journalist Amanda Erickson and British human rights defender Silvia Davis, have been detained, APA reports quoting MIA’s press service.

As a result of joint crime detection carried out by staffers of MIA’s Criminal Investigation Department, Baku Police Headquarter and Police Department Yasamal District, assaulters, resident of Ramana settlement Taghizadeh, Adil Hussein, born in 1993, and resident of Nasimi District Roman Musa oglu Hasanov, born in 1989, were detained. Investigation process on detention other two assaulters, whose names are known, is underway.

Of note, from June 15 to 16 at 00:20 A.M., U.S. citizen Amanda Eriksson and British citizen Sylvia Davis were attacked by unknown persons on Vidadi Street of Baku’s Yasamal District. Aggrieved appealed to the police administration with complaint that they had been attacked by unknown assailants.

The same day in connection with the occurrence it was prosecuted under Article 221.2.1 of the Criminal Code: Hooliganism, that is the deliberate actions roughly breaking a social order, expressing obvious disrespect for a society, accompanying with application of violence on citizens or threat of its application, as well as destruction or damage of another’s property – committed by group of persons or repeatedly. Affected by crime persons were interrogated, the perpetrators’ identikit was designed and forensic-medical examination was carried out.

Operative-investigation group, consisting of staffers of MIA’s Criminal Investigation Department and Baku Police Headquarter, carry out extensive investigative measures for revealing all participants of the assault and disclosure of the crime. The highest management of the Ministry keeps the investigation under direct control.

Of note, the activities of A. Erickson and S. Davis consist of cooperation with local non-governmental organizations, and holding the trainings for journalists and civil society activists. A. Eriksson also cooperates with such U.S. prestigious newspapers as “Washington Post” and “New York Times”.
