ANAS Geology Institute: “Waiting for the eruption of Dashmardan volcano”

Baku. Kamala Guliyeva – APA. The Geology Institute of the Azerbaijani National Academy of Sciences (ANAS) conducted a preliminary research on the volcanic eruption in Hajigabul region. The institute’s mud volcanism department chief told APA that a group of scientists conducted research in the volcanic eruption territory. The erupted volcano is Dashmardan mud volcano, which is situated in the north of Hajigabul, south-west of Gobustan: “The eruption in the mud volcano occurred at 08.00 in the morning and continued for one hour. The height of the flame column at first was 300-400 meters, and then it decreased. There are many wastes of mud volcano around. We can not conduct research works there because the greatness of this section. These works will be continued tomorrow.”

Aliyev said that the Dashmardan volcano has erupted for 4 times over the last 200 years: “The first eruption occurred in 1866, the second one in 1954 and it was stronger than the first one. The third eruption was recorded in 1966. Waiting for this eruption, because 35 years have passed from the last eruption”.
