Court private session held on Forest Brothers’ member Samir Mehdiyev case

The armed group is charged with the terrorist attack committed against the Friday Mosque known as Abu Bakr Mosque in Narimanov district of Baku on Augus17, 2008. Two were killed and 18 injured as a result of grenade explosion at the mosque.

The Ministry of National Security conducted operative investigation to solve the crime and identified resident of Zagatala region of Azerbaijan Ilgar “Abdulmajeed” Mollaciyev, who participated in the North Caucasian armed groups and declared himself as “emir of Dagestan’s Jamaat”, his brother-in-law Samir “Suleyman” Mehdiyev and other radicals as suspects.

Members of Forest Brothers were arrested, but Samir Mehdiyev could escape to Pakistan and hide in Penjebura and then Quetta. He was detained in Pakistan in January, 2010 on the basis of information given by the Azerbaijan’s Ministry of National Security and handed over to Azerbaijan on March 16, 2010.
