â€œCustodial restraintâ€ penalty is taken away form criminal penalty system in Azerbaijan

APA reports that this issue was discussed at the meeting of Azerbaijani parliament’s committee on legal policy and statehood, which has been held today.
The draft law on the amendments to the Criminal Code and Code of Execution of Punishment was considered at the committeeâ€™s meeting. It was said that â€œthe custodial restraintâ€ penalty type does not prove itself. It is impossible to secure the control over people sentenced with this type of penalty.

In general, 59 amendments were proposed to the Criminal Code, 3 articles were given in new edition, the sanctions were changed in 3 articles. In general, the amendments include 101 articles.

According to the amendments, the custodial restraint penalty will be changed with the deprivation of freedom, corrective labor or fines, including replacement of one-year restraint with 300-500 AZN fine, up to two-year â€“ correctional work or 500-800 AZN, above two years â€“ 800-1000 AZN.

After listening of MPâ€™s opinions and proposals the draft laws were recommended to the parliamentâ€™s meeting.
