Baku – APA. Austria’s foreign ministry says a photographer who went missing in Libya is believed to be alive and well and may soon by allowed to call his relatives, APA reports quoting “Associated Press”.
Spokesman Peter Launsky-Tieffenthal says Anton Hammerl, who holds both South African and Austrian citizenship, is likely being held either in a jail or on a military base and that every possible lead is being pursued to secure his release.
Launsky-Tieffenthal added Monday that Hammerl appeared not to have been arrested with three other journalists seized by forces loyal to Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi on April 5 while reporting on the conflict in the North African country.
The parents of one received a call Saturday from their son, Spaniard Manuel Varela de Seijas Brabo, saying he was well in a Tripoli jail.
