Interior Ministry comments on media reports about clash between the believers and police in Lankaran
“As a result of the operations carried out by the police and prosecuting authorities, Emil Bagirov, Ramil Hummatov, Arif Feyzullayev, Zamin Sadigov, also Mammadaga Deyyanov, Khagani Ahadov, Malikaga Malikli. Orkhan Seyyanov and Zaur Hasanov were detained,†he said.
Gozalov said some newspapers try to confuse public opinion, distort the real causes of the incident, essence of the measures taken by the law-enforcement bodies to solve the bloody crime.
“Writing that “special forces were deployed in the cityâ€, “clashes occurred between the police and local residentsâ€, “tear gas was used, there is informal state of emergency in the region†they claim that clashes occurred between the police and 200 believers in Lankaran on September 7. No clashes took place in Lankaran on September 7 and before. There were false reports about thatâ€.
Spokesman for the Ministry of Internal Affairs said that another fact allegedly caused confrontation between police and local residents related to the detention of Gismat Isayev. “Indeed the matter was that on September 2, Imam of the Friday Mosque and his assistant informed police about Gismat Isayev’s offences against them. Isayev was detained as suspect after the investigation. It became clear that he committed hooliganism against other townsman. The court passed decision five days of administrative imprisonment of Isayev, who regularly creates problems with the residents of the region. 20-25 people gathered near the railway station in Lankaran on September 7 to protest Isayev’s detention, but there were no clashes and no casualties. 14 people were invited to police office for violation of public order, four of them were fined and case of another 10 was sent to the city court. The citizens welcomed these measures taken by policeâ€.
