Hearing postponed basing on appeal filed by blogger Adnan Hajizadeh

Baku. Shahriyar Alizadeh – APA. Baku Appeals Court has today held a preliminary hearing on the appeal filed by blogger Adnan Hajizadeh against the decision of Garadagh district court. APA reports that judge Sahibkhan Mirzayev presided over the hearing. The hearing was adjourned sine die, as Isakhan Ashurov said he would leave the country. He asked to postpone the hearing.
“I will leave for a foreign country in some days. I do not know when I will return. I ask to adjourn the hearing sine die,” he said.

The judge adjourned the hearing sine die.

Adnan Hajizadeh had appealed to Garadagh district court for premature release from prison. As the court rejected he filed an appeal.

Bloggers Adnan Hajizadeh and Emin Milli were detained after the incident in Lebanese restaurant in Azerbaijan’s capital on July 8, 2009. They faced charges under articles 127.2.3 (deliberately inflicting less serious bodily harm) and 221.2.1 (hooliganism) of the Criminal Code. On November 11, 2009, Sabail district court sentenced Emin Milli to two years and six months, Adnan Hajizadeh to two years in jail. They filed an appeal against the decision of the court of first instance. Baku Appeals Court upheld the decision of the court of first instance. They filed a cassation. The Supreme Court also upheld the decision of the previous instances.
