Imprisoned in Iran Azerbaijani scientist Rashid Aliyev released

According to the Committee chairman, R. Aliyev was released in the evening hours of August 11. The Azerbaijani scientist, who is presently in the embassy of Azerbaijan in Iran, is supposed to return home tomorrow.

Of note, Rashid Aliyev, who is the senior scientific officer of the laboratory for "Physics of Biological Systems" under the Research Institute for Physical Problems, Baku State University, was arrested two years ago in Islamic Republic of Iran. Rashid Aliyev left for Iran’s Semnan city by "Sazan Electronics Industry" Company’s invitation and on the basis of the cooperation agreement concluded with the management of Baku State University, from 2006 to 2008 he cooperated with the above-mentioned company. During that period, the company, under Rashid Aliyev’s leadership, realized such programs as installing and running the laser systems technology based on management systems, development of test apparatus for modern perfect laser systems.
The management of the company repeatedly offered R. Aliyev a permanent job in Iran but he didn’t accept Iranian side’s proposal and returned to Azerbaijan. After insistent request, made by company director Abbas Eftekhari, Rashid Aliyev made his last short-term trip to Iran on October 5 of the last year. A day later, the police arrested Rashid Aliyev under the pretext of the problems in his visa.
R. Aliyev was accused in handing over laser technology and electronic circuits-related information to Azerbaijan. Iranian court sentenced R. Aliyev to 3 years of imprisonment.
