Military Court of Grave Crimes and several courts abolished in Azerbaijan

According to the decree aiming to improve the judicial structure, the general number of judges is set at 600. The decree says:

-Jalilabad Military Court is to be arranged in Jalilabad;

-Azerbaijan Military Court of Grave Crimes, Aghdam Military Court, Gazakh Military Court, Lankaran Military Court and Sumgayit Military Court are to be abolished;

-Baku Azizbayov District Court, Devechi Region Court and Fuzuli-Gubadli Military Court are to be renamed as Baku Khazar District Court, Shabran Region Court and Fuzuli Military Court;

-The territorial jurisdiction of Azerbaijan appeals courts, courts of grave crimes, administrative-economic courts and military courts is to be defined;

-The Decree #447 issued by Azerbaijan’s President on August 17, 2006, “Increasing the number of judges of Azerbaijan’s courts and defining territorial jurisdiction of the courts” (Laws of Azerbaijan Republic, 2006, #8, article 672) is to be considered invalid:

In order to arrange Jalilabad Military Court, extend territorial jurisdiction and authorities of military courts, the Cabinet of Ministers is to take measures to provide them with building, equipment, means of communication, transport, to ensure reflection of the expenses for increasing the number of judges in the draft state budget for 2011, to prepare proposals for bringing the existing legislative acts to conformity with this Decree and submit to President, solve the related issues.

The Decree comes into force from January 1, 2011.

THE OPERATION IS BEING PERFORMED
