Department chief of Interior Ministry: 27 foreigners were held accountable in Azerbaijan over the illicit drug turnover in the first half of this year

According to him, 1801 drug-related facts were revealed in the first half of the year, 317k drugs were removed from the turnover. 211k of the confiscated drugs was marihuana, 126k hashish, 20k opium, 57k heroin. Hazi Aslanov said 10 citizens of Islamic Republic of Iran, 4 of Russia, 12 of Georgia and 1 of Ukraine were detained over the illicit drug turnover. 21k drugs were seized from them. The department chief said 213.812 tonnes of narcotic plants were found in 453.1 ha area and burnt.

According to the international organizations, production of narcotics has dropped by 30 percent in Afghanistan in connection with the fungus disease. Fungus disease spread in 33 provinces of Afghanistan. It has destroyed drug plantations and the production of narcotics has dropped by 30 percent. This factor has reportedly reduced the illicit drug turnover in the countries.
