Baku. Ramiz Mikayiloglu – APA. “We are very glad that a few days after the inauguration you arrived on an official visit to Azerbaijan,” President Ilham Aliyev said after the meeting with his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan, APA reports.
He said the two countries support each other at international level and hold bilateral consultations.
“I’d like to extend my gratitude to Turkey for defending Azerbaijan’s just position. Turkey has always openly put forth its position in this respect and defended justice. This issue was also discussed during our meeting. Azerbaijani lands are under occupation, there are one million refugees, and our people have suffered ethnic cleansing. The UN adopted 4 resolutions regarding this conflict. However, Armenia ignores these resolutions. The conflict should be settled within Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity, and I’m sure so will it be,” Aliyev said.
The head of state also noted that Turkey and Azerbaijan will stand together against the so-called “Armenian genocide.
“We will coordinate our exports to expose the so-called “Armenian genocide”. Our social and Diaspora organizations will work together. We’ll expose the lie together,” the President said.
President Ilham Aliyev noted that they also discussed defense and energy cooperation.
“Our joint work, TANAP, has attracted worldwide attention. I am confident that the historical project will be implemented on time. This is a project that requires more extensive international cooperation,” Aliyev said.
Erdogan said they discussed issues of cooperation in many areas.
“However, the issue of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict tops the agenda. We discussed all the steps we’re going to take in this regard”, Erdogan said.
Erdogan said that the energy issue was also discussed.
“TANAP is of great importance. This is a great project in terms of Azerbaijan demonstrating its power in the energy sector and being the line of peace. God willing, a groundbreaking ceremony will be held on the 20th of this month and the works will be started. Thereafter, the process will now accelerate,” the Turkish President said.
According to the Turkish President, the world is amazed by the development of Azerbaijan thanks to President Ilham Aliyev.
Erdogan stated that Turkey aims to increase the annual trade turnover with Azerbaijan up to $15 billion.
“I believe our fraternal ties will strengthen even more. We are one nation and two states, this is Heydar Aliyev’s heritage”, he added.
