Exact date and program of CoE Secretary Generalâ€™s visit to Azerbaijan made public

On May 20-21, Thorbjørn Jagland will meet with Azerbaijan’s President, as well as Prime Minister, Foreign Minister, Justice Minister and other officials.

The meetings will focus on Azerbaijan-CoE relations and Azerbaijan’s chairmanship of the Committee of Ministers. At the same time, Azerbaijan and the Council of Europe are expected to sign Action Plan.

During the visit the Secretary General will also attend the meeting of PACE Bureau in Baku on May 22. At the meeting PACE Bureau will review the candidatures of Thorbjørn Jagland and former German justice minister Sabine Leutheusser-Schnarrenberger, who will participate in the elections for the post of CoE Secretary General that will take place as part of the assembly’s summer session.

Earlier, the secretary general’s visit to Azerbaijan scheduled for April 24 and then for May 8 has been postponed. On May 14, Azerbaijan took over the Chairmanship of the CoE Committee of Ministers for six months.
