Former Croatian President Stjepan Mesic noted that the principles of Yalta Conference don’t work anymore.
“We should prevent the Third World War. The main goal of the united Europe is to prevent a new war. The Helsinki principles should be based on and inviolability of borders should play a major role in ensuring trust between the East and West. There are very dangerous trends, the Soviet-era stereotypes reemerged. It is also said within NATO that the enemy is in Moscow. We are concerned about these issues. The future of Europe is impossible without Russia's participation. Everyone should determine their own destiny. It is important to rebuild trust among the countries,” he said.
Former President of Latvia Valdis Zatlers mentioned in his speech that the war is going on in Iraq and Syria, peace has not yet been built in Palestine, the Ukrainian crisis remains unresolved.
“Why the number of wars is many? The politicians who are supposed to prevent war aren’t so perspicacious. We feel the pain of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. We get saddened when hear about the families deprived of their homes in the occupied lands and monuments demolished. We need to go forward and resolve the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and other conflicts.”
