Moscow. Farid Akbarov – APA. “Military activities in the Caspian Sea should be carried out on the basis of principle of ensuring equal security of all Caspian littoral states”, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev said at the 4th summit of leaders of Caspian Sea littoral states in Astrakhan, APA’s Russian bureau reports.
The head of state said Azerbaijan attaches great importance to cooperation with neighbors in military and military-technical spheres in the Caspian Sea.
“We think military activities in the Caspian Sea should be carried out on the basis of principle of ensuring equal security of all Caspian littoral states. This will contribute to the strengthening of mutual trust between regional states. The Caspian Sea must become a zone of peace, friendship and cooperation”, President Aliyev said.
President Ilham Aliyev also stressed the importance of the Azerbaijani-Kazakh and Azerbaijani-Russian agreements on the delimitation of the Caspian Sea and trilateral agreements.
“These agreements play a key part in the regulation of the legal status of the Caspian Sea. Azerbaijan considers that the principles in these agreements can be the basis for the delimitation of the sea among all the Caspian littoral countries. We see the Caspian Sea as a sea of friendship, peace, security and cooperation. Azerbaijan attaches huge importance to the development of bilateral relations with the Caspian littoral states. Friendship and multi-faceted cooperation between the Caspian littoral states are the key for stability, success and security in the region”, he said.
