Azerbaijani MFA: Reports on changes to simplified visa regime between Azerbaijan and Turkey groundless

Spokesman for the Foreign Ministry Elman Abdullayev told APA that the reports about annulment of rules for issuing multiple-entry visas for one year between Azerbaijan and Turkey, that entered into force from September 1, 2014, are groundless and don’t reflect the truth.

Abdullayev said that no changes have been made to visa issuance rules.

“On the contrary, the simplified visa regime has been introduced between Azerbaijan and Turkey. Media shouldn’t disseminate such false, groundless and unverifiable information,” he said.

Azerbaijani Embassy in Turkey has also issued a statement on this issue.

“The simplified visa regime between the two fraternal countries remains unchanged. The reports allegedly quoting the press service of the embassy about the changes to visa regime are nothing more than a political provocation,” Abdullayev said.

It was reported in the media that since September 01, 2014 the procedure of issuance of one-year and multiple visas in force between Turkey and Azerbaijan was annulled. The reports said that according to the new rule, Turkish citizens can only visit Azerbaijan once with one-year visa. Thus, a Turkish citizen who has been issued a visa once a year will have to get a visa 3 times per month and 40 times per year.
