Baku. Victoria Dementeva – APA. “Mutual energy cooperation between Azerbaijan and Ukraine is being continued successfully. Delay in signing of the documents on establishment of joint venture for delivery of liquefied gas to LNG terminal in 2011 derived from Ukraine’s intention to consider other routes on Azerbaijan’s transportation. The participation of Ukraine in the perspective TANAP project is being actively discussed,” Azerbaijani ambassador to Ukraine Eynulla Madatli told Ukrainian press, APA reports.

The ambassador said that the TANAP project caused interest in Ukraine as in Azerbaijan and Azerbaijan was ready to sell a part of its stake to the interested countries: “The Trans-Anatolian gas pipeline is open for all interested companies”. 80% of the project belongs to Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan will leave 51% of its stake in the project and distribute the other 29% between the interested countries and companies. If Ukraine being a great gas consumer is elected as a member of the consortium on the construction of the TANAP gas pipeline, Azerbaijan will be happy, because Azerbaijan is interested in energy independence and security of Ukraine.”

The ambassador noted that the negotiations on establishment of joint venture for delivery of liquefied gas to LNG terminal are being continued: “I can’t say exactly when the negotiations will be completed and the documents signed. But I think that many issues will be solved before the visit of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev to Ukraine. This visit will likely take place early in 2013.”
