U.S. President Donald Trump has shared on his Truth Social account a Breitbart News article featuring remarks made by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev at the Shusha Global Media Forum, APA reports.
The article shared on Trump's official Truth Social account was written by Breitbart News correspondent Joshua Klein.
The Breitbart News article includes President Ilham Aliyev's remarks delivered at the 4th Shusha Global Media Forum, which were also published on the Azerbaijani president's official social media accounts.
President Ilham Aliyev: Trump sees peace as an opportunity
The article highlights President Ilham Aliyev's response to a question from Breitbart News, in which he gave special recognition to U.S. President Donald Trump's role in the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
The president said that previous U.S. administrations had preferred to keep the conflict frozen for nearly 30 years instead of resolving it.
"Donald Trump is a person who loves peace. He sees peace as an opportunity," President Ilham Aliyev said.
According to him, the Trump administration correctly understood Azerbaijan's concerns, sought to convince Armenia's leadership that peace would benefit both countries, and ultimately "created a framework that peace became possible."
White House summit was a decisive milestone
President Ilham Aliyev also recalled the historic meeting held at the White House in August last year.
During the summit, U.S. President Donald Trump hosted Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. The leaders signed a Joint Declaration, while the foreign ministers initialed the Peace Agreement.
In addition, a joint U.S.-Azerbaijan working group was established to oversee the implementation of the agreement.
According to President Ilham Aliyev, this mechanism demonstrated Washington's serious commitment to implementing the agreement.
"For the first time, Americans kept their word with such precision"
President Ilham Aliyev also highlighted the Trump administration's approach to implementing the agreements.
"In my experience, this was the first time that American officials kept their word so strictly."
According to the head of state, this paved the way for Azerbaijan-U.S. relations to enter an entirely new stage.
Strategic partnership reaches a new level
President Ilham Aliyev said that the successful implementation of the peace agreement later led to the signing of the Strategic Partnership Declaration between Washington and Baku.
Describing the current state of bilateral relations, the president said:
"This is amazing. This is unbelievable. This is something that we could only dream about."
He stressed that U.S.-Azerbaijan relations had reached an unprecedented level in history.
Criticism of previous U.S. administrations
President Ilham Aliyev also criticized the policies of previous U.S. administrations.
The head of state said those administrations had preferred to preserve the status quo rather than resolve the conflict.
President Ilham Aliyev noted that Joe Biden, while serving as a U.S. senator, had supported sanctions against Azerbaijan, and that this approach had negatively affected Washington-Baku relations for many years.
In his view, relations under Donald Trump reached "their peak" and an "unprecedented level."
