Ali Hasanov: â€œAwardingâ€ the persons, who were brought to justice over specified crimes, expose the true face of them and their defenders

Baku – APA. “Azerbaijan is a legal state; regardless of their duty, social status and position, all people are obliged to carry out their activities within the legislation. Like in every country, where the rule of law is ensured, Azerbaijan also envisages relevant punitive sanctions for illegal actions and applies them if necessary. As for the protection of people, who have breached the law and been brought to justice, and the issue of their awarding ceremony, it has a very simple explanation,” Head of Political and Public Affairs Department at the Azerbaijani Presidential Administration Ali Hasanov's told APA while commenting on prisoner Anar Mammadli, chairman of the Election Monitoring and Democracy Studies Center (EMDS), being declared by PACE the winner of the Václav Havel peace prize.

Hasanov said such steps first aim to protect the fifth column that is financed by foreign forces, performs their orders and acts as a means of pressure on the country’s independent foreign policy.

“Furthermore, it clearly shows different foreign organizations operating in the name of human rights protection are not independent at all and execute concrete tasks. Therefore, statements as well as this kind of awarding ceremonies aimed at defending those persons, who were brought to justice over specified crimes and strictly criticized in public, firstly expose the true face of them and their defenders. Azerbaijani society sees and evaluates it all”.
