Secretary General of the Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic States (TURKPA) Ramil Hasan has issued a statement on the decision of Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis to suspend cooperation with the European Parliament, APA reports.
The statement notes that the decision adopted today by the Milli Majlis to officially suspend cooperation with the European Parliament in all areas, terminate participation in the EU–Azerbaijan Parliamentary Cooperation Committee, and initiate procedures to withdraw from the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly is supported.
“This decision was taken as a result of the European Parliament’s persistent, completely biased and unfounded approach toward Azerbaijan in recent years. Over the past six years, the European Parliament has demonstrated a hostile stance toward Azerbaijan and has adopted more than 10 politically motivated documents targeting the country without basis, including the latest resolution dated April 30, 2026.
Such a stance not only shows disregard for fundamental principles such as sovereignty, territorial integrity, and non-interference in internal affairs, but also contradicts the peace and normalization process between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
Parliamentary assemblies should serve as platforms for constructive dialogue and goodwill cooperation, including with parliaments of non-member states. Unfortunately, the European Parliament has failed to demonstrate a spirit of sincere engagement and instead prefers to target Azerbaijan.
In this regard, we emphasize that such behavior does not contribute to interparliamentary relations and call on the European Parliament to refrain from such practices,” the statement said.
