Presidential representative: Trade ties with Armenia begin as connectivity projects advance

Since the Washington summit, we have effectively been living in conditions of peace. There has been no military escalation between Azerbaijan and Armenia, Representative of the President of Azerbaijan on Special Assignments Elchin Amirbayov said during his speech at the 4th International Conference on Mine Action titled “Humanitarian Demining for Urban Recovery: Setting Standards of Excellence for Safe Settlements” in Baku, APA reports.

According to him, dialogue between governments and societies has continued, trade and economic ties have begun, and connectivity and communication projects are being developed: “At the same time, our societies are expected to look toward a different future. This is truly a historic opportunity. However, peace is not created by political agreements alone. Peace must be made visible and tangible on the ground, in people’s daily lives. In Azerbaijan, one of the biggest obstacles to making peace visible lies beneath the ground. Since the end of 2020, 437 people in Azerbaijan have fallen victim to mines — they have either been killed or injured. Every new victim is not only a humanitarian tragedy. It is a psychological blow to families. It also reminds society that the war is not yet completely behind us, and this inevitably has a negative impact on public confidence in the normalization process,” Elchin Amirbayov noted.
