Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan will sign a Treaty on Eternal Friendship, Hikmet Hajiyev, Assistant to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Head of the Foreign Policy Affairs Department of the Presidential Administration, told journalists, according to APA's correspondent in Tashkent.

Hajiyev said relations between Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan have already acquired the character of a strategic alliance.

"Following contacts between the presidents of the two countries in 2022, Azerbaijan-Uzbekistan relations entered a new stage and reached a new level. Since then, relations between the two states have evolved from strategic partnership to alliance and are now developing into eternal friendship. This is a first in Azerbaijan's diplomatic practice. We are taking such a step with Uzbekistan. Our peoples have, in fact, always been eternal friends. If we look at the history of Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan, we can see numerous ties between us. This can even be observed in the works of Alisher Navoi and other Uzbek literary figures," he said.

The presidential aide noted that during the current visit, the heads of state will sign a Treaty on Eternal Friendship reflecting the will of the two peoples and their shared history and cultural roots.

"In other words, the eternal friendship between Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan, which already exists de facto, will also acquire the character of eternal friendship at the political level," Hajiyev said.

Hajiyev also noted that Azerbaijani and Uzbek officials try to communicate using a combination of the Azerbaijani and Uzbek languages.

"To a certain extent, this works. When specific terminology is involved, we sometimes also communicate in Russian. However, we mostly try to give preference to Uzbek and Azerbaijani. Written texts are easier to understand, while spoken language becomes easier to comprehend the more frequently we hear the pronunciation. Therefore, some practice is needed," he said.
