“Meetings of religious leaders make an important contribution to preserving common values,” Secretary General of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) Kubanychbek Omuraliev told journalists on the sidelines of the 7th Meeting of Muslim religious leaders of the Organization of Turkic States, APA reports.
He noted that the meeting in Baku is already the seventh gathering held in this format and that bringing together the religious leaders of the Turkic world is of great importance.
“These meetings are extremely important in terms of discussing both religious and social issues within the framework of the Organization of Turkic States,” the OTS Secretary General emphasized.
According to Kubanychbek Omuraliev, the agenda of the meeting includes issues related to science, particularly the importance attached to science and education in Islam, as well as the institution of the family.
He said that protecting the institution of the family and passing family values on to future generations are of particular importance for all societies in the modern era.
The OTS Secretary General also drew attention to the rapid digital changes taking place in the world and the impact of new technologies on society. According to him, it is important to approach these processes from the perspective of Islamic values and principles and to jointly discuss the opportunities and challenges created by technologies.
Omuraliev noted that strengthening cooperation among religious institutions and coordinating the activities of fatwa committees is an important step.
He said that the active participation of Azerbaijan’s religious leaders, muftis, and representatives of other religious institutions in this process is of particular importance.
The OTS Secretary General also highly appreciated the letter addressed by the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, to the religious leaders and participants of the meeting. He emphasized that the letter is an indication of the attention and support given to cooperation among religious institutions.
Omuraliev added that expanding cooperation among religious educational institutions and religious organizations within the OTS could make an important contribution to the exchange of experience and knowledge, the development of modern religious education, the preservation of common values, and the proper guidance of the younger generation.
