Baku. Shamil Alibeyli-APA. Member of the Azerbaijani parliament, head of the Azerbaijani delegation to PACE Samad Seyidov commented on the inclusion of two imprisoned Azerbaijani believers into the list of political prisoners by Christoph Strässer, PACE co-rapporteur on political prisoners.
Samad Seyidov told APA that Strässer’s list does not reflect reality. “Unfortunately, this person continues his activity in this direction. We have concretely expressed our position to the Council of Europe. We have said that we are ready to discuss impartially the problems related to the human rights in Azerbaijan. Biased approach to the issue of human rights in Azerbaijan is inadmissible,” he said.
The names of the two imprisoned believers in Azerbaijan have been included into Christoph Strässer’s “political prisoner” list, the believers’ lawyer Javanshir Suleymanov told APA.
According to him, residents of Gusar region Rahib Piraliyev and Sharafaddin Mahmudov were arrested as a result of the operation carried out by the Department to Combat Organized Crimes under the Interior Ministry. They were charged with drug trafficking. The investigation of the believers, who were detained at the Baku Correctional Facility, has not been finished yet. The international organizations were appealed to regarding their illegal arrest. Basing on the appeals their names have been included into the list of political prisoners prepared by Christoph Strässer, PACE co-rapporteur on political prisoners. Suleymanov said they received a letter that said their names had been included into the list of political prisoners.
“The case will be discussed at the meeting of Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe in January,” he said.
The persons, whose names have been included into the list of political prisoners, are Wahhabis.
