Baku. Anakhanim Hidayatova-APA. “The issue of gas should not considered beyond the general context of Russia-Azerbaijan relations, bilateral dialogue is not restricted to the energy problem,” famous Russian political analyst Alexey Vlasov told APA. Asked whether TANAP project can be rival for Russia’s energy projects, Vlasov said there is a pause in the relations of the two countries, but it should not be regarded as mutual cooling of the relations.

“A number of issues can be solved when the meeting between Vladimir Putin and Ilham Aliyev takes place. This pause is temporary, I do not think that the positions of Moscow and Baku are diverging on the major issues on the geopolitics of the South Caucasus,” he said.

Commenting on the meeting of Azerbaijani and Armenian foreign ministers, political analyst said there is no progress in Karabakh problem.

“It is necessary to activate the dialogue on level of nongovernmental sector. The Nagorno Karabakh conflict must not be left in such an intermediate state, because, any external influence can take the conflict from the frozen stage to the active phase. Brussels is actively involved in this issue, Russia has focused its attention mainly on the Eurasia project and strengthening of positions in the Central Asia region. The failure in Kazan meeting makes Vladimir Putin be too cautious while expressing position on Nagorno Karabakh,” he said.

Vlasov said that the negotiations on Gabala radar station would be continued.
