International Academy of Cossacks awards Azerbaijani President with highest order

Baku. Anakhanim Hidayatova – APA. The International Academy of Cossacks consisting of several Cossacks organizations of Ukraine has awarded President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev with the highest order of Cossacks – “Gold Star of the Hero”, said head of the Union of Cossacks of Azerbaijan Viktor Mereshkin at the press conference today.

Mereshkin said that according to the universal (Cossacks order), signed by the president of the International Academy of the Cossacks, Army General Mikhailo Yamnenko, Ilham Aliyev has been awarded for his support to enhance the friendship between the Azerbaijani and Ukrainian people, restore traditions, cultural and spiritual values, develop science and Cossacks organizations. Earlier, President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych was awarded with this order.

He noted that "Sicheslavskoje Voysko Zaporozhskoje" led by the Cossack general N.Gordienko awarded the first lady of Azerbaijan, President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Mehriban Aliyeva with "Cossack glory" order. Mereshkin said that the presentation of the awards was entrusted to Azerbaijani Cossacks: “As you see, Azerbaijani Cossacks are working in favor of his country. These awards are recognition of fraternity of the Cossacks to Azerbaijan.”
