Baku-APA. “Muslims are facing a number of challenges and obstacles. The recent developments in the Near East have become the major and urgent problems of the global politics. Unfortunately, the ongoing conflicts and wars make people’s pains deeper, thousands of civilians are killed, a lot of people are obliged to leave their native lands,” Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov said at the 39th Session of the Ministerial Council of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, APA reports quoting Foreign Ministry’s press service.
Minister said Azerbaijan is deeply concerned over the situation in Syria.
“As a member of the UN Security Council Azerbaijan has approached the situation in Syria with great responsibility. Azerbaijan along with the international community is ready to continue its constructive approach towards the political solution of the crisis with the participation of Syrians and declares its commitment to support Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. Besides it, there are many important Islam cultural monuments and places, which have a rich historical heritage. We must also continue our efforts to prevent the destruction of such places and achieve the protection of cultural heritage for the young generations.”
Elmar Mammadyarov said that Azerbaijan was concerned about the situation in Palestine: “Azerbaijan once more expresses its support for fraternal Palestinian people towards establishment of sovereign and independent state with capital Al-Quds. As a member of the UN Security Council, we expressed our concern about the military conflict and deteriorating situation in Gaza. I would inform that the consultations on it had already started at the UN Headquarters in New York.”
