Baku. Konul Kamilgizi – APA. The Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan has clarified the Iran’s desire on Azerbaijan’s consent for water transfer of the Araz River to Lake Urmia, APA reports. Deputy Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Firdovsi Aliyev told journalists that the certain proposals made by the Ministry have been already submitted to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan.
According to him, various conventions, which Azerbaijan joined, and their clauses must be obeyed: “The issues on the protection of transborder rivers and international lakes have been reflected in the Helsinki Convention, which was accepted in 1992 and joined by Azerbaijan in 2000. Azerbaijan also approaches this issue guided by the articles of this convention. Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources has prepared some proposals basing on this convention and submitted to the Foreign Ministry. One can return to this issue after final decision is passed,” he said.
Deputy Minister did not go into the details of the proposals, underlined that there was no agreement.
“The results of the proposals will be publicized after the Foreign Ministry passes final decision,” he said.
